| We are Bill and Helen Bolton. We have planned for and proceeded with a move to Spain. We are not wealthy, but it is a viable option for us. We are both 64 (2011) and have chosen to do this for a number of reasons. |
the lower side of middle class income, it was a stretch from Texas to Europe. We found that it was not as expensive as we imagined, in fact, it was a fairly inexpensive vacation. In the U. S., I am a Holiday Inn Express type guy, but we stepped out of that and did some things differently. What we found was a whole new (actually old) world. With a weak dollar we travel well and inexpensively in Europe. It was obvious to us that living in southern Europe had great merit, but few can immigrate to a job. Therefore, retirement became the focus. My wife and I are both multi generational native Texans, so we do not qualify as jet setters and we are far from wealthy, in fact, 90% of our income is from Social Security. Our retirement will be a better life style at about 40% less money than in the Dallas area. We are leasing a very nice furnished 3 bedroom house for under $340 US per month. Health care is excellent and about 70% cheaper than the U.S. (I -- age 64 -- have full coverage 100 Euros annual deductible, no co pay, including vision and dental--- $120 US per month.) It is true that I am in excellent health, but my wife who has many health issues is only $195 US per month. I could continue, but simply put, we are a couple who have found a good deal for us and would like to share the knowledge with others. |
